Do Not Ratify, Decertify!!!

Under SEIU Local 1000 we've now lost 26.19% of our standard of living.
SEIU Local 1000 has caved under pressure and surrendered our benefits and salaries, again!
Granted the economy is down, the budget deficit is up, but our pay has been sacrificed every year for the past 10 years; we have already sacrificed our pay, yet the state continues to spend like the money is going out of style, and the Legislature’s salaries continue to increase while ours decrease.
In 1994, the California Legislatures had $19,000 salaries and we had a budget surplus, now the Legislators are making in excess of $170,000 and we are in a huge budget deficit.
The California State employees didn’t create the laws and regulations that got California into this mess, but they are blaming the State employee’s pension plans, and other “outrageous” benefits for depleting the budget when in fact we are getting paid less now than we’ve ever been paid before, while the Legislators are being paid more now than they’ve ever been paid before.
How is this bargaining worth $6 Million?
SEIU is great at wasting our time and money, other than that they have done a magnificent job at getting pay cuts for us.
In the last 11 years, due entirely to SEIU Local 1000 and their extremely expensive negotiators, State Employees represented by SEIU Local 1000 have lost 11.5% of their income.
Now with this contract we get a 3% pay cut due to the increase in employees pension contribution, plus a 4.62% pay cut due to one PLP (Personal Leave Program) and loss of two paid holidays, which will amount to 0.77% monthly pay cut per month (each day equals 4.62% X 2 = 9.24% loss per year or 0.77% per month). According to the Social Security Administration, the cost living increase for 2010 was 5.8%.
Therefore the total this year will be 14.19% (8.39% pay cut and 5.8% cost of living).
Great performance by SEIU Local 1000, in the last 11 years we have lost 11.5% and now 14.19% equals a total of 25.69% decrease in our wages.
How much has SEIU lost?
Actually they got a pay increase of 50% in 2008 (monthly dues increased from 1% to 1.5%).
This means that we lost 0.5% of our gross income to union dues, which will bring the total loss to 25.69% + 0.5% = 26.19%
Simply under SEIU Local 1000 we have lost 26.19% of our income, buying power, and or standard of living.
This is a 3 year contract, which means we will probably be stuck with it for 5 years before it gets renegotiated (3 years, then another 2 working under an expired contract as we are currently). This is what we have to look forward to for the next 5 years!
As long as SEIU is around we will keep on losing:
- DO NOT RATIFY THIS LOUSY CONTRACT!
Make sure none of your coworkers ratify this contract.UPDATE:
This contract should go back to the bargaining table now that Jerry Brown is our new Governor.
SEIU was pushing us to accept this Take-away contract for the next 3-5 years due to the uncertainty
of having Meg Whitman as our new Governor. Jerry Brown on the other hand, is not unreasonable.
So now that we know that Jerry Brown will be our new Governor, we should renegotiate our contract
and renegotiate it again, next year. There is no need to accept (i.e. Ratify) a “bad” 3-5 year contract.
- Download the SEIU Decertification Petition, sign it and get as many of your coworkers as possible to sign the decertification petition then mail the petition to CPPEA immediately so we can get rid of SEIU once and for all!!!
- The only option is to Decertify SEIU Local 1000.
We can’t afford to keep SEIU Local 1000 any longer!
All of SEIU Local 1000’s previous contracts were the result of backroom deals with the State. Their Bargaining/Negotiation team (BUNC) were pretentiously negotiating for the last several months, then, they were suddenly sent home a few weeks ago. None of the terms of this contract were negotiated by the BUNCs—they were all bypassed.
Based on historical data this years fake negotiation will cost fee payers $6 to $8 million.
